Armando's Kite Shack Fisherman's Huts · Aruba

The Lighthouse

This spot is simple to describe: it is strictly for the advanced kiter.

There is no rescue boat, because a boat cannot even make it out. On the bright side, if you fall or drop your kite, the current will bring you back. The catch is that you will probably end up on the rocks.

The bottom rises from fairly deep to about three feet in a very short distance, which makes a very slabby wave. This spot is only fun if you are looking for a rush and want to dodge heavy, thick lips crashing down. Jumping and tricks are not advised, for your own safety. Never go here by yourself.

A bit of history

Many years ago a ship named “California” sank near these shores. The lighthouse and the surrounding area are named after it. The lighthouse sits on a hill with a majestic view of Arashi beach, the Fisherman’s Huts and the whole strip of hotels.
