Kitesurfing looks harder than it is. Most of the sport is kite control, and that is what your first lesson is about. Here is what to expect, step by step.
Lesson one: the kite
You start on land with a trainer kite, learning to steer and to understand the power zone. Kite control usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. Then you learn to set up an inflatable kite, connect the lines and use the safety system, and you go into the water for your first body drag: letting the kite pull you through the water without a board.
Lesson two: back to the board
You learn to body drag with one hand, so you can get back to where you started and pick up your board. Then come the footstraps and your first waterstart.
Lesson three: riding
You work on the waterstart and on riding comfortably in both directions, on the way to kiting on your own.
Lesson four and beyond
Generally nobody stands up on a board in their first lesson, apart from an odd few. That is why we recommend the four-lesson course, our most popular one. After that you can keep building with extra lessons, or with advanced coaching once you are riding.
Who can learn?
Our youngest student was six and our oldest was eighty. Some people are a little nervous at the start. We guide everybody through gently and patiently, with safety first. As Armando says: if you can walk, you can kiteboard.
Why the Fisherman’s Huts?
Flat, shallow water and steady wind make it a reassuring place to learn, and it is close to the hotels. See the lessons and rates, or read more about the spot.
