Seven spots, three levels. Here is how to choose.
Learning and progressing
The Fisherman’s Huts is where almost everyone starts: flat, shallow water on the inside, constant wind on the outside, and hotels and restaurants close by. The wind is offshore, so tell us when you go out and we will keep an eye on you. Arashi, a little further north, is a family beach with shallow shores and gentle waves.
Riding upwind with confidence
Boca Grandi, on the other side of the island, is a bay about 1,600 feet wide with onshore wind, small waves on the inside and real swell outside. It gets busy after office hours and at weekends. Barcadera is almost never crowded, but there is no rescue and you must be able to stay upwind. Go with a buddy.
Advanced riders only
Armando’s Right, the Lighthouse and West Point are wave spots over rock and reef on the north-west tip of the island. They work only in certain swell, the wind and current can be offshore, and rescue is difficult or impossible. Never go alone, and go with a local the first time.
Not sure? Come by the shack and ask. We know these spots well, and you can read the full guide to each one.
